Specific places. A workable pace.

Museum mornings. Mountain-backed afternoons.

Made for: Travelers who want a city stay with approachable outdoor time, without turning every day into a mountain drive.

Use the route below, then open each named recommendation for its official details. Prices marked “estimated” are editorial planning allowances; published fares can change and availability is not held.

Your itinerary

01Downtown check-in

Settle in and confirm tomorrow’s museum time. Eva is a dinner option if your arrival leaves room for a reservation.

Food options for this part of the trip — choose to suit your timing:

02Utah’s natural history

Book the Natural History Museum for the morning and allow enough time for the dinosaur and regional landscape exhibits. Return downtown before a reserved Eva dinner; the museum is not in the downtown walking core.

03Red Butte’s paths & seasonal gardens

Give Red Butte its own unhurried morning. Choose shorter garden paths in heat or winter rather than promising a full trail circuit. Red Iguana is a separate west-side meal after returning toward town.

↗Keep the airport transfer clear

Allow time for checkout and the actual airport transfer or rental return. No foothill hike is scheduled before departure.

Build a budget you can use.

Prices and source links reviewed October 23, 2026. USD is the local currency used in this guide; no exchange-rate conversion is assumed.

  1. Multiply your selected hotel’s room rate by your actual nights, then add its taxes and mandatory fees.
  2. Multiply meal allowances by the number of diners and meals. Add breakfast, snacks, drinks, tax and gratuities as needed.
  3. Add only the activities you choose. Keep per-person, per-vehicle and included-admission costs separate. Check child, resident and passholder eligibility.
  4. Add transportation, fuel, parking and any optional queue products. Flights, insurance, shopping and advisor fees are not included in the item prices.

Booking order: Confirm dated admission or tour availability first, then coordinate refundable lodging and restaurant reservations. For multi-day theme-park trips, price the actual multi-day ticket rather than multiplying one-day fares.

Destination planning notes

This is a city and foothills itinerary, not a ski-resort package. Use transit or rideshares downtown and allow separate transport to the university museums and gardens. Ensign Peak is exposed, uneven and potentially icy; skip it in heat, lightning or poor footing. Winter air quality can affect outdoor plans. Reserve timed visits first and check garden hours, Capitol schedules and trail conditions.

Check the official links for current hours, closures, accessibility and cancellation terms. Weather, maintenance and seasonal schedules can change the route.
